Skydiving History

Skydiving is an activity that involves free-falling from a height using a parachute. Skydiving History began when André-Jacques Garnerin jumped from a balloon all the way back in 1797. Skydiving continued to evolve and it has been used by the military since the early 1900s. Parachuting played an important role in World War I and World War II.

Skydiving competitions date back to the 1930s. In 1951 skydiving became an international sport. Today skydiving is both a recreational activity and also a competitive sport. Skydiving's uses include the deployment of military personnel and forest firefighters.
